Hi, I’m Molly Moran with green sweep here in Albuquerque New Mexico, the leader in green house cleaning. Today I want to share with you a question that we are asked frequently, along with my answer to that question. It is: “What is green cleaning?” This is a great question!
Green cleaning is defined by the products we use, our equipment, and our methodology. Let’s start with products. The products that are used should not be harmful to humans or to the environment. They should not be synthetically scented, which contributes to poor indoor air quality and sometimes exacerbates asthma. There are certifications out there for products that are decent – the Green Seal certification or the EcoLogo certification are a good baseline.
The equipment – When I talk about equipment, I am talking primarily of vacuums and cleaning cloths. The vacuums should have hepa filters and noise reducing technology when possible.
Methodology – This is mostly about saving water and operating in the most efficient way possible. It is also about targeted cleaning to reduce the spread of dirt and germs. For example, disinfecting door knobs and handles rather than using chemicals on an entire door where people don’t even touch. Or using a vacuum to clean a rug rather than picking a rug up and shaking it out, which spreads dust and dirt in an area.
Any green cleaning company should be implementing these things at a minimum.
